Cap Cana is a gated community at the eastern tip of the island, close to Punta Cana International Airport, built around the Marina Cap Cana, the cliffs of the Punta Espada golf course and the long beach at Juanillo. It is calmer and more private than Punta Cana proper, and the houses are newer and larger. The Collection hosts a small number of residences here with the same team standard as in Casa de Campo: daily household staff, a named advisor around the clock, provisioning before arrival on request.
Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) has direct flights from most major American cities and is a short drive from the gate; we arrange the transfer and the car is waiting when you clear customs. The high season runs from December to April, and Christmas, New Year and Easter carry longer minimum stays and book well ahead.

On an oceanfront point at Eden Roc, with seating over the water beneath an open palapa roof. Fish and seafood led: sushi, ceviche, handmade gnocchi and pasta. It opened in 2003 as the first restaurant in Cap Cana. The restaurant is open to visitors, though the beach and pool of the Eden Roc Beach Club are not, which is worth knowing before you arrive with swimwear.

Mediterranean cooking with Caribbean sourcing under Adriano Venturini, the menu changing with the season, and artisanal products brought from Europe alongside local seafood. There is an indoor room, a terrace over the gardens, and a wine cellar beside it. Dress is resort elegant.

The kitchen also keeps a kosher programme and will arrange cooking classes and tastings, which is useful for a party with particular requirements.

The deep-water marina at the centre of Cap Cana and the departure point for sport fishing and yacht charter along this coast. It hosts international marlin tournaments. Offshore: blue and white marlin, sailfish, yellowfin and wahoo. Inshore: snook, grouper and cubera snapper. We charter the whole boat, never a seat.

A Jack Nicklaus Signature course on the Cap Cana coastline, with eight holes playing along the Caribbean. The rate covers green fee, tax, range balls, cart, caddie, scorecard and yardage book. Caddies are required and a cash gratuity is expected at the course. Cancellations inside 24 hours are charged in full. Punta Espada Restaurant and the Hoyo 19 bar are run by the Eden Roc kitchen.

A purpose-built equestrian community inside Cap Cana covering show jumping, polo, Paso Fino, racing, dressage and endurance, with stabling, a veterinary clinic and quarantine facilities. A riding and polo school operates alongside, and there is now a padel club. Rides and lessons are arranged rather than published.

An adventure park in limestone country inside Cap Cana, connected by trails. Hoyo Azul, a turquoise cenote at the foot of a cliff, is the centrepiece, with a cave swim, the Iguabonita dry cave, ziplines, the Saltos Azules waterfall and a coastal cruise with snorkelling. It is a commercial park and busy at peak hours. The Juanillo tier, which includes beach club access, is the version worth taking.
